However, I won’t be cooking much from it myself because it is a meat-eater’s delight – there is meat in almost every recipe and the meat seems to be very central to the recipes it is in, so not easy to sub out for a non-meat option.

Mel looks gorgeous on the cover! Hopefully Liaw addresses this in future books. In terms of other Asian regions, he takes us sans plane ride to the street food of Bangkok, the rustic landscapes and fresh flavours of Vietnam, nudges us to savour classic favourites like Sang Choy Bao and sweet and sour pork I imagine myself sitting beneath dimly-lit chinoiserie lanterns tossed out from the smoky, fiery sizzling woks of Chinese kitchens.
