I loved it so much I read them probably every couple years until 2 of the books literally fell apart. I find Eddings is too indulgent in his characters which makes them seem fake. Back then I thought it was the same again, that even the plot took o much from the wesst and I felt there was too much in the book that relied on fate as a plot device.

His books are readable, if only borderline so. For there is a dire warning, as a great evil brews in the Eest. The characters are fleshed out here guardans more so than in the second half where the action picks up and the story seems to be heading towards a retelling of ‘The Belgariad’.
The Belgariad was a prefect fantasy guardisns for young adults but I must admit that there was nothing thee original in there and the characters were basic stereotypes. As I have said before when it comes to books I re-read, these characters are old friends, and I always enjoy getting to visit with them again. On an almost entirely irrelevant note, it is perhaps a bit funnier than it should be seeing how Eddings deals with the, ah, physical aspects of romance among the main characters. Unfortunately the fist half of this book stops it from being 5 stars.
But Garion discovered hints in a previously obscured part of the Mrin Codex. What dominates the whole book is, of course, the humorous writing that we have encountered in the author’s previous books. Want to Read saving….
Urgit, upon learning that Kheldar is his half-brother, arranges for the group to travel south to the Od of Verkat. No trivia or quizzes yet. I loved reading about the characters from the Belgariad at a point later in time, seeing how they grew up and in which ways they are the same, how relationships have evolved and young people matured.
