Part One and Part Two. Best part of story, including ending: She lives in Sweden. I felt like this book was only three-quarters finished, like there should’ve been a part 3. Stella, a horticulturist, lives in the countryside with Gabriel, a charismatic older man who is a writer. No politics, at least overtly, either. I enjoyed this psychological novella about how secrets, obsessions and guilt can bind people together.

May 30, Merredith rated it liked it. Books full of atmosphere tend to bomhan me. Good writing, good setting, disturbing plot, and creepy characters. Marina returns to her sister’s house after a few months after her sister’s drowning to pack up and organize her things? It is the story of two sisters. Ships from and sold by Amazon. When she returns in the fall things have changed drastically and she finds that all is not as it seems and secrets can bind forever. Yes, the cover really captures the heady atmosphere in the summer section of this book. Yet these are easy to dismiss and the woman in this story does so, almost as it probably is in real like when one is trying to justify staying in an abusive relationship.
The differences between the two sisters are evident from the opening pages of this novella.

She has only half-formed dreams of becoming a writer, and her early fantasies about Carl are pathetic in their yearnings.
I found it simplistic in its’ writing and was scratching my head at the end bobman it. On the surface, Gabriel seems kind and attentive, but Marina senses a deeper friction—hints of physical abuse, for example, and anger out of proportion to drownrd events that gave rise to it.
A simply written, bihman chilling novel, Drowned left me wanting more. Ice-cold fear on every page? Under the Feet of Jesus. I chose this book to read first after a dry patch of only reading novels for year 12 and textbooks throughout the year, in doing so I expected more; I wanted it to spark inspiration in me again. Jun 08, Maddy rated it liked it Shelves: Drowned is a little different to the types of books I typically choose, but a reading friend recommended it and I was keen to give it a shot.
I was expecting more but it didn’t deliver more for me. Both of them seem to relish this; there is strong sexual chemistry at work, and when Gabriel kisses her, it is a moment both she — and we, the readers — have long anticipated. Not an exciting read at all! Marina arrives for her summer visit and she and Gabriel are left alone, apparently for far too long.
